DARPA & UAV laser weapons are dangerous

I am twittered by wired.com because I enjoy tech science news. Saw two articles today thought that concerned me.

First, Northrop Grumman, defense contractor has breached the 100 kilowatt barrier with a laser weapon, 105, which is only 5 kilowatts hotter but still, it’s like the sound barrier in portable laser power, but they’re already pitching the possibility of affixing this to an unmanned military vehicle.

Northrop Grumman

YOU: So what, they’re going to use it to to kill mine fields and stuff, good application!!!

ME: I feel bad for rabbits and gophers though. Computer control is susceptible no matter how many safety measures and protocols you put into it. Think big, think Microsoft (or any software vendor) how many updates and security fixes they come out after the fact! THERE ARE ALWAYS HOLES!!!

YOU: Sure, but something that big and military would be difficult, your imagination is running wild, paranoia.

oil platform

Check out this other story posted TODAY on how a hacker disabled an offshore oil platform!!! What??? Yeah!!! For Real!!!

Anyone out there play Starcraft by Blizzard Entertainment? Still an amazing game, hard to believe it came out back in 1996!!! Anyone who knows Starcraft and the history behind it, Koreans were obsessed with it, had tournaments, would play it 8-12 hours a day and kicked out butts in computer strategy warfare and I’m sorry, the people proposing and rushing this big budget projects overlook a lot of stuff. Starcraft 2 is supposed to come out this year, the most highly anticipated release of any game globally, seriously. Starcraft 2

I am a web designer and occasionally work with SSL 128-bit sites, everyone raved about how 128-bit was totally secure, then they came out with 256-bit because 128 bit was not only NOT secure but also because the 128 bit ENCRYPTION ALGORITHM appeared on websites in the Philippines, China and and North Korea (I know because I saw it two years ago)!!!

Wait, what???

Your tax dollars at work. Cheers.
