Vista 64 Fix to install Microsoft SQL Server Mgmt Express Studio

Recently for a web client I had to open an access database, since I don’t have a recent version of access on my computer and the web host didn’t have any Windows based SQL editor available (like most do???), I downloaded the 64- bit version (since I’m on Vista 64 bit home edition), tried to install it, got an error during uninstall, it undid the process, I tried the 32 bit version, of course it didn’t work, said wrong platform, it needed 64 bit instead.

Here’s the error I was getting during the install:

error code 29506

error code 29506

I have net 2.0 on my computer, so I know it wasn’t that it was missing or something.

I looked around online, saw huge threads on this, finally found an answer! So I’m doubling up the answer for any other weary traveler.

Ok i found the solution,

in 4 easy steps! lol

Control Panel > User Account > Change Security Settings

NOTE: Uncheck - Use User Account Control (UAC)

> Reboot ( most reboot )

it will be 5th step if you count the reboot.

Enjoy it

Here’s the link to the thread that has the above answer:
